Here are a few snippets of true stories. We would love to hear your
story.
A Teachers Gift
I received my first I Am Loved button when I was in the 1st
Grade. My teacher, gave them out to each person in the class on the
last day of school. It was the last year she taught and I kinda felt
special knowing that she wanted us to know she loved us. It is now
several years later and I still have that pin.
Symbol of Love
Polish heritage has always been in my family and it's very
special to me. Mostly, it's special because of my grandpa. My mom is
an only child and my brother and I are his only grandchildren. We
spent a lot of time with our grandparents. We went on trips and
spent holidays together, where we would hear stories about the
Polish heritage its people and enact Polish traditions. People at
school knew I was Polish, mostly because of my crazy last name. When
someone at school first gave me the "kto's mnie kotcha”
(Polish I Am Loved) button, my first thought was that my grandpa
would love it because Polish is his first language. It wasn't long
after I got that button that my grandpa began having health
problems. He was eighty years old and had already lived through
heart surgery and cancer, which left him with only one lung. When my
family heard that he was in the hospital again, possibly with
pneumonia, I decided to send him a "kto's mnie kotcha"
button since I'd gotten another one. As it turned out, he never saw
the button. He died before he opened the package we'd sent. My
grandpa was buried wearing his "kto's mnie kotcha" button
and I wore mine to the funeral. I still wear it as much as I can and
touch it whenever I miss my grandpa. It makes me feel closer to him.
Thank you for giving me this symbol of love for my grandpa.
Life Saving Pin
Recently I received a letter from a former coach of my sons. The
letter was obviously a cry for help. It appeared to be a suicide
letter of sorts. I tried calling him many times with no answer. I
was so concerned about the state of his mind that I went to his home
to talk to him. Since I was unable to contact him, I wrote a letter
and and sealed it with an I Am Loved button. He called a few days
later to thank me for the LIFE SAVING letter and the pin that he
will keep as a prized possession forever. Thank you for helping me
save a life.
A Caring Heart
I ordered buttons to give to elderly people at an area
convalescent home where I volunteer. When I gave a button to them,
they showed great joy and emotion. I gave a button to one lady who’s
family hasn’t visited for 5 months. I spent time talking to her
when I gave her the button. The very next day she died in her sleep.
She told a worker that she could die peacefully now because she knew
someone cared.
Support for Autism
The buttons I receive will be given to people in my Autism
Support Group. Because many people who have special needs children
often feel alienated by our society. They endure so much
emotionally, psychologically etc. I plan to give these to the
parents in a card from their children to surprise them. This way the
children can contribute and the parents will truly know they are
loved even though the child may not be able to speak these words.
Thank you for making this button available. I have tears in my eyes
thinking of how much this will brighten some of the parents’
spirits and help encourage them.
